In today's fast-paced corporate environment, traditional icebreakers often fail to create genuine team cohesion. So, how can companies foster deep, meaningful connection among their staff? The answer lies in a creative art team building workshop for corporate employees.

As a global art initiative, Viva La Vida invites people worldwide to pause amid rapid changes and explore a fundamental question: "What is your life?" By translating personal stories into a single painting, individuals embark on a journey of self-discovery—and forge deeper bonds with their peers.

In December 2018, Viva La Vida partnered with telecommunications giant China Unicom in Beijing to design a bespoke art workshop for over 200 professionals during their "Jingcheng Talent Program" anniversary training.

The Experience:

From Individual Brushes to a Collective Mural

A successful corporate team building art workshop goes beyond drawing; it guides individuals from diverse backgrounds toward introspection and authentic expression.

The session kicked off with an inspiring introduction by VIVA volunteer facilitator Jiao Shu, who shared VIVA's global journey and curated life portraits from around the world. Inspired by these global stories, over 200 China Unicom employees picked up their brushes. They painted pivotal moments from their personal growth journeys and envisioned their infinite future alongside the company.

While individual life experiences are brilliantly diverse, something more powerful emerges when people explore the vitality of a collective. The session culminated in a collaborative, large-scale mural. This co-created artwork served not only as a joyful collaboration but also as a visual manifestation of their shared aspirations for the company's future. As one facilitator noted: "Your life has one color; mine has another. Only when we share do we discover that life is a vibrant spectrum."

The Power of Sharing:

Unlocking Workplace Emotional Wellness

One of Viva La Vida's core visions is to foster deeper human connections through story-sharing. During the curated artwork-sharing session, employees eagerly unpacked the hidden meanings behind their lines and colors.

As they spoke about their lives, some were animated with excitement, others filled with deep emotion, and many were moved to their core. In a corporate culture where vulnerability is rare, participants experienced the warmth, relief, and psychological safety that comes from opening one's heart to colleagues.

Data-Driven Insights:

The Viva La Vida Visual Analysis Report

What sets Viva La Vida's creative art workshop apart from standard team building activities is our post-event analytical approach. Following the China Unicom event, the research team conducted a comprehensive analysis of the 200+ artworks to generate a detailed Visual Analysis Report for the company’s leadership.

By extracting and analyzing high-frequency visual elements, the report revealed a compelling psychological portrait of young workplace professionals:

  • The Challenges: Employees navigate significant financial pressure, growth anxiety, and emotional uncertainty in the modern workplace.

  • The Strengths: Despite these pressures, they remain courageously committed to self-exploration, connecting with others through warmth, and maintaining a positive, responsible stance toward their collective and society.

This report provided China Unicom's management with invaluable, empirical insights into their employees' well-being and organizational morale.
